18/365: Become your Dream

New York got hit with another decent snow last night.  They measured a little more than 8 inches in Central Park, {which normally would have been a "big snow"} but considering what we went through around the holidays this was a piece of cake.  I got some street shots this morning on my walk to the subway, which would have been a nice change from all the nighttime/indoor pictures I have posted for the last few days...but that's not what I'm posting for my picture today.  I think more than anything else so far, this 365 project has really taught me to open my eyes and look at what I would normally just pass by.  Living in New York, I am bombarded by stimulus everywhere I turn.  To tell you the truth... you get used to the constant activity around you. You {unfortunately} get used to the homeless on the sidewalks, the beautiful buildings, the people that walk by you, and at some point you even get used to the naked homeless tranny bottom up on your subway car on the way home from work {true story}.  I'm on quite a tangent here...the point is, on my walk home this evening I noticed a lonely Starbucks cup {garbage, I'm sure} sitting on top of a mailbox.

Can't you just see this picture on a greeting card?? "Sending you warm wishes in the blizzard!" or "Here's a Starbucks gift card to warm you up!"  Well, maybe not...but my point is that without the 365 project I never would have noticed.  :)

On another note, still relating to noticing what is around you, you might have seen that I added a section to the blog.  Take a look and let me know what you think.

Goodnight!

16 & 17/365: Verizon iPhone!!!

The Verizon iPhone really has nothing to do with my pictures, but I have been waiting for this news since they first came out with an iPhone in 2007.  I am so excited today!!

16/365: Hello NJ
Christen and I went to the High Line park last night.  This is one of my favorite places in the city...it's so unique.  I wanted to get down by the water to take some photos of New Jersey across the river - except it was f.r.e.e.z.i.n.g.  I was picturing one of these types of night photos {except of NJ, not NY}.  I do really like the result, even though it's not exactly the shot I was anticipating.  (If you click on a picture, it will open up larger in a new window.)

17/365: Trying to catch water
I spent about an hour trying to get a good picture of a water droplet.  It is extremely difficult. I used my new tripod :) to try to steady the camera at just the right angle and hold it still enough to capture a droplet.  I easily took 50 pictures trying to get one just right.  Here's the best I got tonight.  I don't love it, but I think it was a solid attempt.

14 & 15/365

14/365: Tickets for Drinks
Jaime and I went to a bar in the Village with some friends during the day on Saturday.  We are probably too old to go there since it is an NYU bar...but we had a great time!  Instead of a stamp on your hand or a wristband, they give you tickets which you redeem for pitchers of beer.  I shot this while we were sitting at our table, waiting for our next pitcher.

15/365: Sunset on the East River
I took a walk down to the park near our apartment today that overlooks the East River.  I love when you take a picture into the light and everything becomes a silhouette. I also love bridges.  This picture just might end up hanging over my couch. :)
