7/365: 1.1.11

Happy New Year!!!

I am exhausted from last night's festivities, so this will be short and sweet.  This bike was leaning against Jaime's neighbor's house...so they might have seen me creepily taking pictures this afternoon.  I really like the way the blue pops out of this photo against the white house and the white snow.  The firewood just makes it feel cozy.  :)

Hope everyone had a great start to the year.

6/365: NYE

Today is the last day of 2010.  I can't believe it will be 2011 tomorrow.  Maybe my next post can go into detail about my year and goals and dreams and all that mushy stuff, but right now I am running out the door to go to the beach for New Years Eve!   I'm not too sure if there is wifi there and I wanted to make sure I took my picture and posted it today.  I can't fail 6 days into this thing...

Here is my first attempt at a photo as I am wandering around Jaime's parents house.  Jaime was in the shower and his necklace was laying on the futon in his room with the light from the window shining on it.  He bought this when we were on top of St. Peter's dome in Rome.

Sometimes I get mad because Jaime doesn't think it's realistic for me to want to throw my business degree and corporate america out the window and try my hand at becoming a professional photographer for a full time living {let's be honest he is clearly the practical one in our relationship}...but then at the same time he pushes me to be more creative and forces me to become better.  I guess that's why I date him :)

So, here is a much more thought out and composed image.  It's another Italian piece of jewelery that I bought Jaime for his birthday when I was studying abroad.  I tried to capture the reflection on a table and when that didn't work I pulled out my iPad (please don't mind the fingerprints on it!!!).
I think this one came out great. Thanks Jaim.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy New Years Eve...see you in 2011.

5/365: Charley's Birthday

Today Charley turned two!  We took some pictures of him with his birthday hat...he looks so festive.
I can't believe that he is two already...I remember when Jaime and I picked him up from Barleycroft.  We got the last pick of the litter and he seemed like the calm one.  Boy were we in for a surprise!

I took some final Christmas present shots by the tree before I left to go down to Jaime's parent's house today.  I really like the selective focus on the ribbon here.

Finally, for dessert we made some cookies tonight with my gift to Maria {Jaime's little sister}...an Easy Bake Oven!  Jaime gets the credit for making a perfect "M" cookie, and Maria decorated it. But I took this fabulous shot.

Time for bed...tomorrow is New Years Eve, and I didn't make it too late last year.  I'm hoping this one is better.

4/365: Cinna-Berry

I went to go see Grandma today at her nursing home and this was on the ground when I got out of the car.  Someone's car is not Cinna-Berry fresh today.

3/365: Still Stuck

We were still stuck in the house today because of the snow. The driveway was plowed, so at least it is possible to get out now, although I doubt my civic could handle our street.  I was planning on after Christmas shopping with Mom...so I am hoping that tomorrow is better.

I was taking some pictures of the tree today and I noticed that the sun was creating rainbows through the front door.  This is my favorite.

I am posting so late tonight because I was playing around in Photoshop.  I used to be pretty good at the program, but I seem to have forgotten most of what I knew.  Eventually I just started googling and I stumbled upon this website and created something similar with a few tree pictures.  Notice that the middle picture has some pretty stars from the lights on the tree.  Dad had a really cool filter from his old Canon SLR that we played around with.  I {l.o.v.e} this effect.

Goodnight

2/365: SNOW!

Well, we have at least 2 feet of snow here in NJ.  I have to say {even though my dad will COMPLETELY disagree} I love the snow.  I can probably say that because I took off from work this week...{read: I'm doing nothing except sitting in my pjs and taking pictures}.  I'm sure if I had to commute I would be hating it like most people.  LIRR, Metro North and NJ Transit were all suspended and I heard that a whole subway train was stuck overnight.  I guess I'm pretty lucky that all I had to do was shovel the walkway...I would not have survived a night stuck on the A train in Rockaway.

I took a lot of pictures of Charley in the snow.  This is by far my favorite. This completely captures how much fun he has playing in the snow.

Here is just a standard snow picture of the back yard. I really don't think it captures how much snow there is...but I like the contrast between the green trees, blue sky and white snow.

December 26, 2010

Hello.

Here it goes.  Jessica Haley's first blog post! I'm starting this blog to document my 365 day project - which I hope will help launch me into something much greater as a photographer.  The basic idea of 365 is to take one picture everyday and post it. I've followed photographers who are in various stages of this and they all agree that you learn a lot throughout the process.  By combining the 365 project and some photography classes at the NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies I hope to be a much better photographer by the end of 2011...and maybe one day make some money a career out of it.

I'm really excited to start this project...so I'm starting with two pictures.  I was going to wait until the first of the year, but I took off from work this week and might as well start now!

I took this picture las night before I went to bed, but since it was after midnight I can still count it toward today's picture.  I took it because A. Santa got me an awesome remote for my camera {a Nikon D40 that I bought for myself about two years ago} and I played with it all day and B. Santa got me the awesome bow on my head and I felt that it needed to have adequate photo coverage throughout the day.

I've been having a lot of fun taking Christmas pictures with a bokeh effect. I really love it!! And for my final call out to Santa...he also brought me a great new lens for Christmas which I used for both of these pictures :)

I hope you all enjoy following me throughout the year. I'll be back tomorrow!
